History of Bible Baptist Church

1953  The church was originally incorporated as Sunland Park Community Church in July of 1953 with Harry C. Gay as Pastor.

1958  The name was changed to Baptist Church of the Foothills.

1970  The church acquired a permanent facility in Tujunga.

1972-1981  Over the years several men led the church including Pastor Oscar R. Huskey III, Pastor Eddie C. White, and Pastor Dick Black.

1981-1988  Dan Gilbert traveled from Pensacola, FL to assume the pastorate of the then small congregation. He faithfully and fervently labored, quickly growing the church and its membership. In 1982 the name of the church was appropriately changed to Bible Baptist Church of the Foothills, better known as Bible Baptist Church. In 1984 his son, Dave, moved with his family to CA to assist BBC as the associate pastor.

1988–2019  Dave Gilbert was installed as pastor and the church continued to grow. In the early part of 1993, the church moved into its current location in Sylmar. This building, located just a few miles west of the old location and still nestled at the base of the foothills in the San Fernando Valley, This was a much larger facility and fitted the needs of this growing congregation. After renovations, the first service was held there on Mother’s Day, May 8th Pastor Dave was faithful to his calling and ministry, building men of God and sending them out to pastor other churches throughout Southern Ca. Beloved by his congregation, he labored continually for the Lord Jesus Christ until his death in 2019.

2019–present  Toby Wolski was installed as pastor and moved his family from Pennsylvania in June of 2020. Pastor Wolski continues to teach and preach the King James Bible, continuing the faithful heritage of “holding forth the word of life” from the pulpit of BBC.

Pastor Wolski’s life verse:

“…that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”

II Corinthians 5:15

Our Pastor

Pastor Toby Wolski grew up in a Christian home in Southeastern Pennsylvania in a Bible-believing church where his father served as an associate pastor for the first 19 years of his life. He trusted Christ as his personal saviour at a young age and felt God’s call to preach a few years later. At age 22, he married his wife, Carla, and moved to Pensacola, FL to Pensacola Bible Institute where he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity Degree in 2005.

Upon returning to his hometown, Pastor Wolski served as an assistant pastor for the next 14 years in the church he grew up in. Over these years he was involved with and responsible for a number of church ministries including: song-leading, bus ministry director, outreach coordinator, visitation director, Christian school Bible teacher, SS teacher, and Youth Pastor. He also developed his own curriculum for teaching Bible classes in the Christian school and has written a book (Rightly Defining the Words of Truth) that has been published by DayStar Publishing.

In addition to their heavy church involvement, Pastor Wolski and Carla started and grew to a family of four wonderful children: Samuel, Maddie, Noelle, and Sara.

Pastor Wolski answered the call to become the pastor at Bible Baptist Church in late 2019 and moved his family to Southern California in June 2020 during the unforgettable coronavirus pandemic.

Pastor Wolski’s book, Rightly Defining the Words of Truth, introduces an insightful method for understanding difficult and oftentimes misinterpreted passages of the Bible without compromising the words of God. The book has been used and taught by several pastors in their adult and teen Sunday Schools. It has also helped many Christians untangle tricky passages of scripture and gain a clear understanding of certain Bible truths.

Rightly Defining the Words of Truth can be ordered from Daystar publishing, the Bible Baptist bookstore, as well as Amazon.
